WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES
Join staff from Moors for the Future Partnership on Wessenden Moor to learn about the restoration of the moors in the Peak District and South Pennines. We’ll talk about their transformation from bare peat to lush blanket bog, how it’s done, why it’s done and the challenges involved. We’ll also talk about moorland plants and wildlife and their citizen science work to monitor these precious species. There will be plenty of opportunity to look at different restoration techniques and ask questions.
To do all this we will go on a moorland journey of around 15 km (9 miles) in length.
Please note, despite Moors for the Future staff being on-hand to show and tell, this will otherwise be a peer-led activity and participants should therefore consider themselves wholly responsible for their own safety and be ready to take care of themselves during a hill-day involving considerable rough and boggy moorland.
An opportunity may be offered to drive to a pub not too far away afterwards for a post-activity informal de-brief.
