Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to develop rock climbers on single pitch crags, including teaching lead climbing. It builds on the skills acquired in the Rock Climbing Instructor, which candidates must hold to access the Rock Climbing Development Instructor scheme.
About
Rock Climbing Development Instructor training lasts for 4 days and this course is being provided by Bryn Williams MIC. Courses will be very practical and course places limited to 4 people per course.
The course is offered non-residential and will be based from Apex Outdoor near Symond's Yat giving good access to the surrounding crags for both trad and sport. We will also make use of a climbing wall facility for a small part of the course.
Registration for the Rock Climbing Development Instructor scheme is an application process and you need to meet the following prerequisites which will need verifying by Mountain Training.
- Be a qualified Rock Climbing Instructor.
- Delivered a minimum of 20 days as a Rock Climbing Instructor
- Led a minimum of 60 single pitch routes using leader placed protection at VS 4c or above.
- Led a minimum of 60 sport climbs in three different climbing areas at 6a or above.
