About To start off the ski season 2019/20 and an opportunity for practical and technical theory input from some of the leading people within the Backcountry Skiing Industry.
There is to be a small cost (£10-15) depending on numbers, this will be announced via Yammer.
Outline Programme with approximate times:
09.30 – 10.00am - Welcome and refreshments
Meet at Backcountry UK shop
10.30 – 1200 - Update of ski equipment.
Phil Evans from Backcountry UK to lead with a focus on:
• Current touring equipment developments.
• Boot/binding compatibility issues
In addition, there will be a trade representative presenting current equipment developments, details to follow.
1200-1300- Working Lunch
Bring a packed lunch in-order to continue discussion building on the morning presentation. Opportunity to further inspect equipment within the shop.
13.00 – 1430 - Management of Clients ski equipment by Guides.
Nigel Shepherd will lead and will include:
• Binding setup and adjustment
• EN Standards used in Ski equipment applicable to Guides in their day to day work with clients.
• Appraisal of binding used in accidents and considerations with selection and advice.
1430 – 1530 - Current Ski Guiding Issues.
Al Powell will lead on issues such as:
• Smartphones and electronics,
• Ropes
• Airbags
• Topical ski guiding issues
1530 - 1630 - Wash-up on the day and general discussion.
Open forum on issues brought up by members attending.
