WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES
Spend a day on Helvellyn with Graham Uney, who has been Fell Top Assessor on Helvellyn for the last five winters, discussing how an ML can work in summer conditions with groups on the classic grade 1 scrambles of Striding Edge and Swirral Edge, and remain within remit of the award.
This is NOT a ropework refresher. The idea of the workshop is to look at group sizes, personal familiarisation, knowing your group members, understand weather implications, and route choice.
This workshop is perfect for qualified MLs who want to work on Helvellyn, but who understand that scrambling ground is a grey area in terms of remit and the scope of the scheme.
Please note, this workshop will not result in having a Technical Advisor sign an ML off to work on these ridges. It is not a 'mini-MIA' course. The workshop is all about how you, as an ML, can keep within the remit of your award and still work on the Edges of Helvellyn.
EQUIPMENT/KIT REQUIRED
Personal hill kit, including packed lunch. OS Explorer OL5.
CATERING/FOOD
Bring your own packed-lunch for the day.
WORKSHOP PROVIDER CREDENTIALS
The workshop is run by Graham Uney, who is an MCI, and up until this spring the Fell Top Assessor on Helvellyn during the winter months. He has made well over 600 ascents of Helvellyn via Striding Edge and Swirral Edge, and knows these ridges intimately.
