About

This short online MTA session forms part of a free series of informative and interactive webinars in November designed to help provide continued support for members during these challenging times, and as the nights begin to draw in. All hosts are generously volunteering their time to run these sessions for members.

Event content:

The mountains exhibit traces of the Ice Ages everywhere you look. Mountain Leaders can make great presenters for this topic.

Many of our clients are eager to find out more about what the glaciers did, and will expect to go beyond what they learnt in the classroom at school or college.

This is one subject everyone will be expected to know something about.

23/11/20 (this session) - Part 1: The first session sets the scene. What were the main features of the Ice Ages? Conclusions from this session can be applied to any northern-hemisphere mountains.

30/11/20 - Part 2: The second session takes that story and applies it to one important mountain area - the Cairngorms. Book this session separately.

Webinar host:

MTA member, Nic Bullivant has been a Ranger in Scotland for most of the time since 1977, having recently completed 20 years at Cairngorm. This last posting gave him great opportunities to train as a Mountain Leader and explain to people about all aspects of mountain landscapes, natural history and recreation. In 2017 he moved to Erbusaig near Kyle of Lochalsh where he runs Quality Mountain Days and guides people on Skye and in Wester Ross. This has opened a new, and fascinating, perspective on the glaciation of the Highlands. His degree course at Sheffield University (1977) included a major section on the Pleistocene glaciation of the British Isles, and he was fortunate to be able to choose the Scottish Highlands to study in detail.
