Award Description
The Lowland Leader qualification has been designed for people who wish to lead groups on day walks in lowland countryside and woodland in summer conditions. The majority of the UK and Ireland is made up of this type of terrain so you'll never be short of places to go walking.
This course is based at Swindon Local Authority's Outdoor Education Centre Plas Pencelli in the Brecon Beacons. It is a large well equipped centre with extensive attractive grounds. It is an ideal central position in the Brecon Beacons National Park and in Wales means that many venues are accessible. Candidates will need to have undertaken a training course and have fulfilled all requirements of the scheme before assessment including 20 walks in lowland countryside in different types of terrain. You must hold a current first aid certificate, minimum of 16 hrs and relevant to your work as a Lowland Leader. The separate Training and Assessment courses are based on the Lowland Leader Syllabus set out by Mountain Training. The course fee includes necessary specialist equipment, instruction, transport whilst on the course and course administration. Residential courses include self-catering accommodation.
