Award Description
Our Rock Skills courses are designed to provide structured training opportunities for people who want to learn more and become independent climbers. There are three different levels so that complete beginners and those with more experience can choose the most appropriate starting point.
This course is specifically for women from a minority background.
The course has been subsidised by Mountain Training in order to remove as many barriers as possible. Each place is subsidised by £50, and each participant will only need to pay £35.
I am delivering this as a women-only course specifically for those from a minority background in order to encourage and enable these women to access skills training and outdoor participation that they wouldn't usually pursue, and to provide a space which feels welcome and fully catered to them.
The course
This 1 day course is your key to getting started! No previous experience of climbing is required. The content of the course is aimed at beginners, giving you knowledge about equipment use, locating crags and routes, staying safe at the crag, outdoor movement techniques and the fundamental skills to start your outdoor climbing journey.
Course meeting point: Kendal (specific meeting point tbc)
Course timings: 9am – 5pm
Travel logistics: I encourage people to car share or use public transport if possible, in order to make the course accessible and minimise our environmental impact. We will share cars to a local crag, there are good train links to Penrith, and buses in to Keswick. Please inform me when booking if you are planning on using public transport.
Minimum age: 12
(Note: under 18s must be accompanied by an adult)
My courses are always catered to you. They are relaxed, fun and involve as much climbing and learning as possible! Bespoke dates are available on request.
