Our Rock Skills courses are designed to provide structured training opportunities for people who want to learn more and become independent climbers. There are three different levels so that complete beginners and those with more experience can choose the most appropriate starting point.
This 2 day course will give you all the skills to lead climb confidently on trad gear.
You will learn how to:
fit a harness and helmet correctly,
ensure you are wearing correctly fitted climbing shoes,
place gear efficiently and safely using only one hand,
place and clip effective gear on the lead,
lead trad on single ropes extending gear so ropes run smoothly,
lead trad on 2 half ropes clipping gear to the right and left to keep both ropes in line,
keep you and your second safe at all times,
manage single and half ropes and become slick and efficient,
create anchors from which to top rope belay to bring up a second,
abseil and retrieve your ropes,
lead belay effectively and efficiently with single and double ropes,
hold a lead fall,
rope management from uncoiling, to flaking, to stance management, and coiling,
develop good climbing technique that enables you to place gear in a balanced and secure position off a straight arm,
use a climbing guide book.
