Environmental Sustainability and the IML
In the context of the Climate Crisis and Global decline of wildlife, the Environmental Sustainability agenda is critical to the long-term wellbeing of people and nature. The mountain environment is particularly sensitive to change and many of the landscapes that we pass through as International Mountain Leaders bring the scale of the challenges we face to life. Shrinking glaciers in all Alpine mountain ranges of the globe coupled with erratic weather patterns are leading to serious challenges downstream for the millions of people who depend on the mountains as a resource for drinking water and crop irrigation. Fragile mountain ecosystems are threatened by Climate Change as well as human development. With increasing demand for accessibility to nature, how do we achieve a balance where our enjoyment of the natural environment does not compromise the survival of the landscape that we seek to promote?
The people that live and work in the mountain environment have a reputation for resilience and it is our responsibility as educators to encourage best practice for long-term sustainability of the environment. This CPD session will look at the contemporary sustainability agenda and challenge thinking around how we achieve sustainable development in our sector.
Equipment
Session will be mostly classroom based but we may venture outdoors in close proximity to the venue (weather dependent).
