*1. FREE FRIDAY EVENING TALK -
Friday Evening 5pm - 5:50pm
Adventures in Deep Time - Dr Richard Phillips
Geologist and aspirant IML, Dr Richard Phillips, worked for many years as a research scientist and lecturer, undertaking geological expeditions to remote areas of the planet. Here, he explains some of his work to understand how mountain ranges are built and destroyed. From mapping mountains in the NW Himalaya to exploring the southern Libyan Sahara by jeep, Richard describes how continents have moved in the past and how earthquakes and Earth’s climate shape our landscape today.
(Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances the scheduled talk that was due to take place with Jo Bradshaw on Friday evening has subsequently been cancelled. We apologise for this inconvenience).
