Going Solo - Professional considerations for the independent Mountaineering Instructor

This workshop is being organised by Glyn Mitchell with input from Rob Pugh and will be worth half a CPD point, 2.00pm to 5.30pm in the La Sportiva Room at Kendal Climbing Wall.

It is open to all AMI Members - Full and Trainee.

This workshop will use a peer led approach to discussions.

Many AMI Members run their own business, whether part or full time. Within our membership we have an incredible wealth of knowledge about running businesses and this workshop is a half day peer led talking shop aiming to discuss a range of professional considerations for the independent Mountaineering Instructor.

We will discuss a range of subject titles with the aim of tapping into the knowledge of the attendees in order to raise awareness and encourage best practice when working on the non-client facing aspects of their business. These subjects may include:

• Equipment - maintenance, recording, inspecting
• Gear Pools & Kit Hire – How to kit clients out
• Marketing & Advertising – Tips for setting yourself up
• Insurance – What is required?
• DBS - working with young people 
• Driving - PSV’s/using your own vehicle etc.
• Health & Safety considerations
• Growing your business and employing others

Please bring a pen & paper or tablet. The cost is £10 to cover the cost of the room hire - please bring cash on the day.
