Rescue 3 - Water Safety for Expedition Leaders - 2 x Full Days
The course would be an ideal bolt-on to an International Mountain Leader (IML) or UIAGM Guide Carnet. The course is also aimed at those providing support for TV production, geologists, surveyors, etc.
Primarily the 2 day course will focus on safety, planning for, recognition of, avoidance and management of hazard. During course we will look at river crossings, safe swimming techniques and simple rescue solutions in as close to a real context as possible.
This course is a part of the portfolio of Rescue 3 qualifications and therefore is recognised worldwide as the best quality. As with all R3 courses the qualification will last for 3 years and contain an element of assessment.
Assessed elements
• Dynamic risk assessment.
• Management of risk.
• Conditional rescues (where to rescue is conditional upon the help of the victim).
• Moving water swimming techniques.
• Theory task.
Course Pre-requisites
• Confident, capable swimmer.
• Good level of fitness – capable of leading an expedition!
• Experience of trekking/expeditioning outside of country of domicile.
Equipment
Available to borrow from Plas y Brenin… (But feel free to bring your own if you wish)
• Drysuit.
• Buoyancy aid/PFD
• Helmet
• Throwbag
• Technical equipment – ropes/ krabs/ slings.
• Walking poles
Please bring with you the following
• Thermal layers for under the drysuit (including thick socks)
• Gloves/Hat/Duvet jacket – to wear on the bank
• Method for taking notes/pictures.
• Wetsuit gloves (if you have any)
• Neoprene skull cap (if you have one)
• ‘Expedition kit’…. A rucksack packed to approximate an expedition weight/size bag that can get wet.
• ‘Expedition’ clothing – for final ‘realistic’ exercise!
• Waterproofing methods…. Dry bags, tarpaulins, bivvi (orange plastic) bag, Packraft, others?
• If you own a ‘DryRobe’ this is THE course to bring it along!
• Flask.
