WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES
Goal-Full Summer Mountain Walking QMD (Sunday), which will be of value to S Mountain Leader Trainees or Lowland Leaders/Hill and Moorland Leaders interested in the SML award, or a Central Region Member looking to add to their DLOG and have a full day in the mountains. The QMD (Sunday) will include Micro Nav/Flora and Fauna/Geology/Air Craft crash sites (always good for micro nav), and will take in the peaks of the Central Beacons (Waun Ryd, Fan y Big, Cribyn, Pen y Fan and Corn Du), meeting at Beacons Resevoir (A470 SN 989183 OS map ref, postcode LD3 8NL-which will take you to the Storey Arms-ring 07435 288932 if temporarily tactically displaced). Please note-weather could affect the shape of the day eg Snow/Ice, in which case route will be changed to keep within Summer conditions-event is peer lead so flexibility to weather conditions is needed.
There is an option to do a wild camp on the Saturday evening for attendees who want to travel up the day before (Saturday 12th) and meet Saturday afternoon, wild camp (within Leave No Trace guidelines/local permissions), dependent on interest-again people wanting to add to their DLOGs or wanting to do their first wild camp/have a Central social. All with the option of a night nav on the Saturday night. Ready to meet at 9.00am for the Sunday QMD. If interested in a Saturday camp-please email dt1969@hotmail.co.uk
COVID Permiting-travel to be arranged from Central Region/car share or pick up from train stations-COVID Regulations to be adhered to at all times.
EQUIPMENT/KIT REQUIRED
Clothing, gear, food and water for a full day in the mountains in Winter/early spring conditions. Map and compass for those who are looking to practice micro nav (OS 1:50 160/OS 1:25 12). There is an optional Teams call that will be arranged a few days ahead of the meet to discuss forecast weather conditions/kit if necessary.
CATERING/FOOD
Bring your own for a full day in the mountains-it will be a long day with a lot of ascent/descent-in early March (four seasons can be expected in one day), hot drink/lots of energy giving food.
WORKSHOP PROVIDER CREDENTIALS
Peer lead-there will be SML qualified attendees in the group, with higher awards (WML/WMIC potentially attending), the weather conditions will be assessed and the planned QMD will keep within capability/weather conditions.
