Award Description
Our Rock Skills courses are designed to provide structured training opportunities for people who want to learn more and become independent climbers. There are three different levels so that complete beginners and those with more experience can choose the most appropriate starting point.
This Rock Skills Learn to Lead Trad Climbs course will provide you with the skills you need to participate in traditionally (trad) protected climbing, including an introduction to leading simple trad climbs. This course is also ideal if you are looking to improve your confidence or refresh your personal trad leading skills with the aim of helping you to become an independent climber.
CLIMBING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
You should have belayed on at least 20 occasions; AND Have seconded a minimum of 20 rock climbs at Very Difficult (VDiff) or above; OR Have led 20 sport climbs (indoors or outdoors).
DESIRABLE Completion of Rock Skills Intermediate and/or Rock Skills Learn to Lead Sport.
Course meeting point: Keswick
Course timings: 9am – 5pm
Travel logistics: I encourage people to car share or use public transport if possible, in order to make the course accessible and minimise our environmental impact. We will try to share cars to a local crag, there are good train links to Penrith, and buses in to Keswick. Please inform me when booking if you are planning on using public transport.
Minimum age: 14
(Note: under 18s must be accompanied by an adult)
