Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to supervise climbers on single pitch crags and climbing walls. Common activities undertaken by Rock Climbing Instructor will be roped climbing and bouldering. This scheme does not include the skills and techniques required to teach lead climbing.
This course will concentrate on the core areas needed for the Rock Climbing Instructor course syllabus and will develop your skills in the use of climbing walls with groups, running productive and meaningful sessions for groups at simple crags and looking at group abseils. The course will also look to develop your skills in your own personal rock climbing and look in some detail at what is expected of a competent leader and how to lead routes well and set up good simple belays.
All aspects of equipment and it's use will feature as well as looking at Group management. All equipment can be provided.
The course will be based in the Welsh marches nead to Shrewsbury, and we will visit local crags such as; Grinshill, Llanymynech, Nesscliffe, Pandy Outcrop, Pontesbury (Pontesford Rocks). A local climbing wall will be used.
The course will start in Shrewsbury.
