The Lowland Leader qualification has been designed for people who wish to lead groups on day walks in lowland countryside and woodland in summer conditions. The majority of the UK and Ireland is made up of this type of terrain so you'll never be short of places to go walking.

The Lowland Leader qualification has been designed for people who wish to lead groups on day walks. It is ideal for people who work within schools and youth groups, and those who are involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

This Lowland Leader Course is a 16-hour practical training opportunity to enhance and develop pre-existing knowledge and skill.

I am a provider of Mountain Training Lowland Leader Courses and Assessments. I offer outward bound first aid courses which comply with the Health and Safety Executive regulations. These are;

  • Emergency First Aid at Work (8 hours) which meet the requirements for the Camping Leader, Climbing Wall Instructor and Climbing Wall Development Instructor.
  • Outward Bound First Aid (16 hours 2day course) which meets the requirements of the Lowland Leader, Hill and Moorland Leader, Mountain Leader and Rock Climbing Instructor.
  • First Aid at Work (18 hours 3day course) this course is the full HSE first aid at work course. It also meets the requirements of the Lowland Leader, Hill and Moorland Leader, Mountain Leader and Rock Climbing Instructor.

Location and Travel

This training will take place in Nesscliffe which close to Shrewsbury on the A5. The venue has free parking and is close to Shrewsbury Town. Local large cities and towns include Liverpool, Birmingham, Stoke on Trent and Oswestry. There are a number of camp sites and hotels which offer accommodation close the venue at reasonable prices. Please contact me if you need any advice. This first day will not start before 0930 to make it easy for traveling.

Personally

I am an experienced outdoor practitioner with over 20 year’s experience in providing training and development in various outdoor pursuits. I believe in enabling instructors to promote the outdoors to the next generation. I care about providing training and assessment opportunities which are of a practical nature, where learning and development of knowledge and skills are at the core of every course I deliver. Everyone is an individual and is involved in their own journey as an outdoor instructor - I recognise this and tailor courses to ensure I support you on this learning pathway.

Before Booking 

Before you book onto a Lowland Leader Training Course, please make sure you have done the following:

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must be registered on the scheme
  • You must have recorded on the dlog system a minimum of 10 varied walks in Lowland terrain where the use of a map is required
