This 2-day workshop will cover main aspects of the IML summer core syllabus including managing a group in consequential terrain, managing sections of fixed equipment, leadership, journeying, navigation and the environment.
On the 17th, please meet by 9am at the Vercorin Cable Car car park so we ca use the cable car to access the Crete du Midi. We will make a journey looking at managing a group in consequential terrain, coaching movement and looking at how we might manage sections of fixed equipment as well as problem solving when there is no fixed equipment. We will catch the last cable car down at the end of the day around 4.30pm.
On the 18th we will meet at 8am in Grimentz to catch the first bus up to Barrage du Moiry. Then completing a journey from there to Basset de Lona - Lac de Lona area, looking at navigation, micro navigation, environmental ideas (including the geography and geology of the area) and leadership of groups before heading back to Bendolla to catch the last cable car down.
Please note this course is not residential. You will need to arrange your own accommodation overnight.
Please bring suitable leader kit for these days including packed lunch etc.
The workshop will be run by Sandy Patterson who is an IML and Mountaineering Instructor. Sandy works on all the qualification courses from Lowland Leader through to Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (formerly MIC) including the IML award scheme. Sandy is a freelance instructor and he regularly works on the IML training and assessment courses.
Should the workshop not be filled by participants attending both days, it may be possible to attend a single day.
