Geology and Landscape Evolution in Limestone Terranes: with particular reference to the White Peak (full day session)
A brief introduction to geology will lead into a more detailed description of the formation and weathering of calcareous rocks, the different types of karstic landforms this produces and their evolution in upland karstic terranes, especially the White Peak of central Derbyshire. A proper understanding of the natural world requires a degree of familiarity with geology. International Mountain Leaders are uniquely placed to nurture and rekindle this amongst their clients.
Equipment needed
Nil for indoors, but appropriate outdoor walking equipment/attire for the possible field excursion. Participants are welcome to bring any unusual rock samples they may possess to the indoor session!
