Award Description
Our Rock Skills courses are designed to provide structured training opportunities for people who want to learn more and become independent climbers. There are three different levels so that complete beginners and those with more experience can choose the most appropriate starting point.

Learn to Lead Sport
Llanberis, Snowdonia
The Rock Skills Learn to Lead Sport course is your ticket to getting leading outdoors on bolts. We’ll look at everything you need to know to sport climb outdoors, from lead belaying, clipping bolts, stripping anchors, clip-sticking and more. If you've got your sights set on progressing to trad climbing, the skills learnt leading on sport routes will put you in good stead for moving on to our Rock Skills Learn to Lead Trad course.
Our courses are delivered from our Basecamp, right on the high street in Llanberis, Snowdonia and include any technical equipment needed, as well as free tea & coffee. Our ethos is to run fun, friendly and relaxed courses to develop your confidence and skills.
Course Aims
By the end of this course you’ll;
- Have had an enjoyable time climbing on real rock
- Have climbed at some great sport climbing venues
- Have the skills to lead bolt protected sport routes on rock and indoors safely
- Be ready to move on to a Learn to Lead Trad course
Our Basecamp provides a quiet, private space for Mountain Independence where we run morning meetings and evening lectures; equipped with facilities for weather briefings, presentations and resources. Llanberis itself is a great base, with lots of local crags, plenty of accomodation options, and good transport links.
With tea and coffee included in the package; finishing the course with a slice of cake is just the icing on the, well....
