Award Description

Our Rock Skills courses are designed to provide structured training opportunities for people who want to learn more and become independent climbers. There are three different levels so that complete beginners and those with more experience can choose the most appropriate starting point. 

Rock Skills Introduction (10-17 years old)

The outdoors is calling you out to play, or the Olympics has inspired you to try rock climbing, our Mountain Training Rock Skills courses are the ideal place to start. This course offers you a number of opportunities over the course of the day to develop an understanding of what climbing entails. With the opportunity to try some top-roping, have an abseil and depending on the venue have a boulder as well. This is a great opportunity to give it a go.

Let our instructors give you an amazing introduction to climbing at some of the best climbing the UK has to offer. We are truly surrounded by opportunities to develop some skills from a complete beginner to knowing what direction to head next, and we don’t even have to go that far.

Content of the day includes:

• Quality top-rope climbing
• Introduction to safe belaying
• Climbing calls and communication
• Basic movement skills
• Understanding of outdoor risk
• Look at what’s next and where to go from here

Previous experience
No previous experience is required, but it is a full day so a reasonable level of fitness to maximise your opportunities throughout the day.
