About

WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES

Weaselling, Ferreting and other names exist, either way it is about the exploring of rocks through squeezes, scrambles, crawls, fidgets, squirms and many other fantastic words. These challenges amongst the rocks are not only great for wet weather days, but they are also fantastic for coaching and developing climbers in a fun arena away from the lofty heights of planned climbs. It isn’t just for kids, but we may need to adjust our planning to make it more appropriate to our client group, but regardless of age, it goes down really well.

We have an abundance of weaselling venues across the UK and Higgar Tor is one of them. A great imagination, and an adventurous mind will be developed further over the day, with lots of tools and ideas to take away for groups in the future. How to manage risks, and where to draw the line. Is it still weaselling or have we strayed in to bouldering?

Greater understanding of how weaselling can be incorporated into more aspects of our work as climbers with the right equipment, and how it can be used to coach technique. How we can still run an effective session that is fun and engaging, but also a great warm up prior to our climbing. Manage risk associated with our day and expectations of the group, and how to plan an effective and fun session.

TRANSPORT

We will initially meet at The Outside Cafe in Hathersage for a briefing and go over the learning outcomes of the day.

There is free parking available on the lay-by near the crag, and if full there is usually additional parking a little further up the road.

With regards to public transport, there are buses and trains available, trains from Manchester and Sheffield to Hathersage. Timetables are available online, please use Google Maps with caution as they don't consider all bus services and connection possibilities and timings aren't always accurate.

EQUIPMENT/KIT REQUIRED

You will need old clothes and waterproofs, please don’t bring your best kit, old trainers or boots, bouldering mat (if you have one) and a helmet.

CATERING/FOOD

Please bring with you a packed lunch, snacks and a drink. There is a couple of shops in Hathersage, but please pick up items before we start the course so we can maximise our activity out and about.
