Award Description

The Climbing Wall Instructor Abseil (CWI Ab) module, is an optional module undertaken by those involved in the Climbing Wall Instructor scheme. It's aim is to train and assess people responsible for supervising abseiling from climbing walls. Some Climbing Wall Instructor providers will offer the Abseil Module as part of the main training course if the facility they are planning to use is appropriate.

This is the optional Abseil Module Assessment to enhance the Climbing Wall Instructor holder skillset to also deliver abseiling. It's an optional module as not everyone needs to run abseiling activities, for instance those who work full time at facilities that don't have abseiling.

If you're looking to open up more freelance opporunities, or considering the Rock Climbing Instructor award further down the line, then this is a great bolt-on. It's an additional 2-3hr course we run in the afternoon immediately after the accompanying Climbing Wall Instructor Assessment finishes on the same day, usually 15:30 - 18:30.

We offer this abseil module at a discounted rate of £25 (from £45 - see joining instructions for discount code) for anyone booked on to the accompanying Climbing Wall Instructor Assessment course with us.

In addition to our experience of delivering the Climbing Wall Instructor award scheme, we are active and current Climbing Instructors ourselves. We’re passionate climbers and the only thing we love more than teaching climbing, is developing motivated instructors.

We strive to provide a relaxed, friendly atmosphere on our Climbing Wall Instructor Assessments so candidates perform at their very best. Even though you’re on assessment, our aim is to provide development and learning opportunities for you to not just pass your award, but improve your instructional skills.

Our Basecamp provides a quiet, private space for Mountain Independence where we'll run the morning brief with tea and coffee. It's a relaxed environment to run through the homepaper before we'll head to a local climbing wall such as the Beacon or the Indy. If you've already completed a CWI Assessment, we'll meet you directly at the wall in the afternoon.
