Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.
Assessment prerequisites:
You must have attended a Mountain Leader training course (or have been granted exemption)
You must be familiar with the syllabus
You must have an up to date logbook (preferably DLOG) with evidence of; 40 varied Quality Mountain Days in three different regions of the UK and Ireland (see Appendix for definition). This is a minimum requirement. Other personal walking and leadership experience is useful but not essential. 8 nights camping, including at least 4 nights wild camping
You must have physically attended and completed (i.e. not online) a first aid course which involved at least two full days or sixteen hours of instruction and included an element of assessment. This is a 5 day course. two blocks of 2 days and 3 days.

Sometimes we get together on the evening of the Friday 18th October, this encourages candidates to be in the area the night before.
