About

WORKSHOP CONTENT

This is an introduction to a huge topic.  The aim is for you to be confident identifying common upland plants and lichens, to have something interesting to say about them, and some ideas for developing your clients’ appreciation of plants.  Suitable for those preparing for assessment and also qualified outdoor leaders who want to deepen their knowledge.  We will learn in the course of a walk covering several upland habitats.  Maybe we will come across the sap-sucking dodder or insect-eating sundews featured in The Green Planet!

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Confidence identifying a range of common upland plants and lichens; some by general category rather than species
  • Facts of interest about plants such as traditional uses, adaptations to habitats etc
  • Ways to pass on this knowledge to clients
  • Resources for identification and further study

EQUIPMENT/KIT REQUIRED

Come prepared for a day out on the moors, including food and drink.  Bring a hand lens if you own one, though you will be able to borrow one on the day.  Also bring along any favourite flora books or resources.
