About

Forest Bathing / Nature Connectivity Workshop

How can Forest Bathing / Nature Connectivity benefit you when you’re doing LL, HML and ML assessments or working outdoors with individuals and groups?

This is another new, innovative event from the Peak Region Team. Come and join us for a slower, calmer day, connecting with nature and giving you a taster of some practical tips and techniques which can help you get through those stressful LL, HML and ML assessments (we’ve been there!) and augment your work outdoors.

We won’t be grabbing contour features, crags and spot heights but we will be engaging with the environment in a different way. If you are looking for an energetic romp across the moors with 600m ascent then this is not the event for you. However, tf you are interested and open to the benefits that nature can bring us all, then it is!

The benefits of Forest Bathing and nature connectivity for your mental and physical health are well documented and now supported by robust peer reviewed publications in scientific journals. Our objective for the day is to draw on this wealth of information to give you some new skills, encourage you to engage with nature differently in your practice. Hopefully this will send you away feeling refreshed and rejuvenated after having spent a mindful time with us.

The day starts at 09.30 at the Whirlow Brook Car Park (GR: SK 30807 82844). There wasn’t a charge to park there when we did our recce but take some change just in case. We suggest arriving early to get a space. There are a couple of car parks here and if full there is space to park on the crescent at the end of the driveway. We will facilitate lift sharing before the event for to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum. There is a lovely café with a toilet too.

We will group for the start of the day in some small woodland / grassy area just off to the side of the first car park.

The Workshop will last for approximately 4 - 5  hours. We have kept it a bit more fluid than normal so that we can see how the day goes. Going with the flow will be the order of the day!  There will be a debrief afterwards for those who would like in the café, which does have some fabulous cakes! This will give you the opportunity to discuss the event, and socialise whilst supporting the local business.

EQUIPMENT/KIT REQUIRED

An open mind and curiosity!

Your personal walking kit appropriate for the forecasted weather conditions and rough ground conditions. That could include clothing and equipment suitable for walking in rain

and windproof jacket (with hood) and over trousers, sturdy walking boots (knee-length gaiters also recommended), plenty of warm insulation layers, hats and gloves if required.

You will find it useful to have something to sit or lie down on such as a Sit Mat, small stool or long mat.

You will need to bring an OS Explorer OL1  map (either laminated or in a good map case, a navigation compass, a personal first aid kit, any medication you need and

your mobile phone. It may also be wise to either carry an emergency group shelter or a plastic emergency bivvy bag and a headtorch with batteries. As this is a peer-led event

you are  for your own safety and well-being. If you have any medical conditions which might affect you during the workshop, you should notify the leaders.

NB You won’t be using the map or compass as part of the event but we suggest you have one for your own personal safety.

You will need to bring food and drink for a day of lowland walking away from shops and facilities. There is a café with conveniences at the start.
