This course is aimed at climbing Instructors wanting to develop their problem-solving skills Rock-Climbing.

We will take a structured approach starting with the building blocks of Improvised Rescue to give you the tools to deal with more complex scenarios.

You will learn how to respond to issues quickly, remain calm and give you the confidence to make the right decisions whether in your personal climbing or working professionally.

We will discuss how and when to use different techniques and explore different teaching progressions as ways of developing your skills and encouraging your clients learning.

Some of the topics we will cover:

  • Escaping the system
  • Common climbing problems, anticipation, and prevention strategies
  • Stance management 
  • Ascend and descend ropes.
  • Lower and hoisting
  • Descent from a multi-pitch crag
  • Evacuation of injured or incapacitated climber

Participants should bring their own personal climbing equipment, including:

Harness, climbing helmet, mountain boots, rock shoes and rucksack.

A basic rock rack, including selection of nuts, cams, quickdraws, 2-3 long slings and two prusik cords.

 You should bring appropriate clothing for a day in the hills, with suitable waterproofs and spare clothes. You should bring a packed lunch and drink.

This workshop is open to MTA members wanting to develop their personal skills and for those looking to progress as a Rock-Climbing Instructor.

This workshop will be delivered by British Mountain Guide Nick Kekus. Climbing4all-tailor Made Guiding Experiences.

 

Location: Northern Lakes District. We will meet in Keswick and use a local multi-pitch venue in Borrowdale or the wider area.

 

Course cost £75 and a maximum of 6 place available.
