Award Description
The Hill and Moorland Leader award is designed for people who want to lead groups in the hill and moorland areas of the UK and Ireland. This award is a wonderful opportunity to learn the leadership skills required to feel confident about taking people out walking. As you may have guessed from the descriptive title of this award, it focuses on non-mountainous terrain.
The Hill & Moorland scheme offers leaders access to a vast arrange of UK landscapes - candidates are expected to be able to navigate & demonstrate leadership to the same level as Mountain Leaders - just without the need for movement on steep or rocky ground and without an overnight expedition.
The instruction team at Wellness Walks includes a chief instructor of the national mountain centre for England & Wales (Plas y Brenin) and the ex-President of the British Association of International Mountain Leaders. Other course staff include heads of outdoor centres and a mix of inspirational instructors we've met along the way.
We have a particular focus on supporting under-represented communities* and all of our instructors are fully qualified in mental health support and many have lived experience of ND issues - we see it as our role to find the best way to help others learn.
As a social enterprise we want everything we do to have a strong ethos of supporting people who are less fortunate, under-represented or marginalised in any way. Whilst our courses have to be competetively priced each full course we're able to run funds a totally free place for someone on one of our personal skills courses.
By booking your Hiull & Moorland Leader training with Wellness Walks you're also helping us to help other people - a win:win
* feel free to contact us if you'd like more information on how we might be able to support you taking part in this course.
