Award Description
Our Rock Skills courses are designed to provide structured training opportunities for people who want to learn more and become independent climbers. There are three different levels so that complete beginners and those with more experience can choose the most appropriate starting point.
Rock Skills Intermediate: This two day course builds on your previous experience as a climber and introduces you to more advanced climbing skills.
Over the two days you will gain confidence in your belaying, learn how to belay a lead climber and how to second route competently, as well as developing your climbing movement skills and learning how to place traditional protection and how to construct safe and appropriate belays.
You will also look at the following skills:
- Background and planning
- Warming up and injury avoidance
- Increasing your climbing movement and technique repertoire
- Building anchors
- Selecting appropriate runners
- Personal abseiling
By the end of the two days you should feel confident with your newly acquired skills and looking to progress your knowledge by attending a Rock Skills: Learn to Sport and/or Learn to Trad courses.
Pre-Requistes:
- Completion of a Rock Skills Introduction course.
OR,
- Have logged 10 routes on an indoor wall or at outdoor crags; and
- Have logged 10 belays of a fellow climber.
These can be logged via the Mountain Training Association Candidate Management System (CMS).
