walked up the old man of Coniston with my dad and brother we left Coniston at 10 and walked up the street up to the normal car park for the mountain. We then headed up the track towards dow crag with the intention of doing a route there. Unfortunately by the time we reached the tarn, the wind was to high and instead decided to head up buck pike and loop around to the top of dow crag. we dropped down into the saddle and then took the opportunity to teach my brother some nav and we headed over to Brim Fell before joining the track and walking to the summit of the old man. we where well into the cloud at this point and didn`t spend to long at the summit and headed down towards the quarries and we dropped down the clouds started to break which reviled fantastic views across coniston. We rested at the tarn and stopped for a late lunch before taking the track down to the town.
Area :
Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)
The Southern Fells Include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, occupy a broad area to the south of Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. High and rocky towards the centre of the Lake District, the Southern Fells progressively take on a moorland character toward the south west. In the south east are the well known Furness Fells, their heavily quarried flanks rising above Coniston Water.
