Cloud base 400m, 10m visibility all day! Freezing above 500m, moderate winds, strong on summits. Succoth car park, tourist path then concrete staircase to south east ridge Beinn Narnain, Bealach a’ Mhaim, contour to Bealach a’Mhargaidh, Beinn Luibhean, Beinn Ime, Bealach a’ Mhaim, south to pick up The Cobbler tourist path, back down to the car park. A longish day. Had hoped to do Ben Vane as well. did lots of step cutting up Beinn Ime as I didn’t have my winter boot and crampons (thinking about the long walk out from Ben Vane). Navigation was hit and miss, when I did it, it was really good. Too often I didn’t do it properly and had to relocate in the clag. Good practice but tiresome. Also found it hard adjusting to a larger scale 1:50,000 map after using 1:25,000 so much!
Area :
Loch Fyne to Loch Long (Beinn an Lochain)
South of the A83 as far as Dunoon and sandwiched in between Loch Fyne and Loch Long are a number of peaks, none of which qualify for Munro status. The southern half of the Arrochar Alps includes Beinn an Lochain, which at 901m was wrongly included in Sir Hugh Munro’s original list of 3000ft peaks in Scotland. The mountains list contains all peaks above 600m.
