Description

07.30 - 19.30, 25.5km, 1180m.
Cloud base 700m, gale force south winds. Rothiemurchus Lodge, col 640m, stalkers path down into Gleann Eanaich, Loch Eanaich, A’ Phocaid, Sgor Gaoith, Sgoran Dubh Mor, descent to river bend GR 922017, track to bridge GR 924043, contoured round Carn Eilrig Cairn to cross Allt Druidh south west of Rothiemurchus Lodge. A very good long hard day 25km with a lot of soft slap on the ridges making it hard going. Wasn’t sure where I had topped out of A’ Phocaid and ended up walkin south before I got the compass out and did it properly. The contour at the end was spot on in the dark, really pleased. Used the snow saw for the first time.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
