Description

09.30 - 16.00
Cloud building from south, gale force southerly. Coire Cas car park, Fiacail a’ Choire Chais, col GR 999036 and back. An easy day after the previous day. If the weather had looked better I might have gone over to Loch Etchachan. Had a go at building my first igloo, a bit ambitious at 4 meters in diameter! Got it to shoulder height before I had to call it a day with the temp rising quite fast. Learnt a lot, snow saw worked well.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
