Description

Pennine Alps, Central.
7.1km, 1575m.
Broken cloud, base about 4000m, occasional showers, snow encountered on final 200m of approach to hut. Trevor Beese leading five adults and one teenager. Zinal to Tracuit Hut via tourist path.
06.00 - 18.00,
4.1km, 930m to Bighorn, 11.2km back to Zinal. Clear blue sky, bright sunshine, few crevasses in glacier, crisp snow becoming soft in the afternoon. T Beese and Ian Blakey leading two ropes of four. Tracuit Hut to Bishorn(4153m) by north-west flank - grade F, return to Tracuit Hut and Zinal.One rope of four including myself climbed east summit (4134m) while other rope started down. Numerous delays due to the inexperience of the party e.g. crampons coming off and altitude sickness.
