Description

Went to do the 1978 Face Route but wasn't in; deep powder on unconsolidated mush. Thrashed most of the way up this moving together, then it got dark at the bottom of the top pitch, which was sketchy with the turf unfrozen, so we bumslid all the way back down.

Area : Northern Highlands Central (winter)

The Northern Highlands Central area is defined by the SMC guidebook of the same name. With the exception of the inclusion of the Ben Wyvis range, the northern limit is the A835 Inverness to Ullapool road. The southern limit in the west is based on the A832 KInlochewe to Achnasheen road, but the crags reached from the Loch Maree to Gairloch road are also included. The most southerly part of this area includes Srathconnon, Strathfarrar, Glen Cannich and Glen Affric. The major winter venues in this area include An Teallach, The Fannaichs and the more easterly ranges of Strathconnon and Strathfarrar. Not often frequented, these cliffs offer a variety of excellent winter climbing opportunities.
