ACTIVITY
Hill Walking / Climbing
REGION
Lake District
AREA
Eastern Fells
DESCRIPTION OF ROUTE
Fairfield Horseshoe Via (Westmorland`s Route)
I’ve been staying in Ambleside for a while now and after chatting to a few of the university students felt like walking the Fairfield horseshoe was a right of passage. The walk itself is great and could walk straight out onto the fell and within an hour was up high linking the summits together. To make to outing a little more interesting I had a read about priests hole and decided to go exploring. I had also read about a severe on dow crag called Westmorland`s Route. Route finding was a little tricky at first. The route itself was very grassy and obviously doesn’t see much traffic but the climbing was enjoyable and the views down into deep dale where fantastic. Once I had topped out I continued the loop up to Fairfield summit and then headed south-southwest to Rydal via great rigg. Brilliant views across the park and down the length of windermere.

Area : Eastern Fells

The Eastern Fells occupy the region between the A591 Keswick to Ambleside road and the lake of Ullswater to the west. The Helvellyn range forms the main spine of the group. To the south across the depression of Grisedale Hause, is the Fairfield group of fells.
