Description

I have been up Kinder Scout many times, starting in my teens and I'll admit, it's not my favourite hill. However this day was fantastic, cold, bright with the ground frozen hard. Took a small group (4+me) from the UEA Fell and Mountaineering club on a circuit from Edale, up Ollerbrook via a short scramble up Ringing Roger. Then (somewhat redundantly given the visibility) demonstrated the use of pacing to locate Madwoman's stones. The walked North then West alng Blackden edge before taking a further bearing across the moor to upper tor and descending by grindbrook clough.

Area : Dark Peak

Is situated between Sheffield and Manchester. The underlying rock is Millstone grit which is often exposed at the edge of the higher peat bogs for which the area is famous.
