Description

Fantastic walk up Ben Vane in the Arrochar Alps. As I did not have winter gear, I was prepared to go back down if conditions got icy, but there were only small patches of ice right at the top. There was quite a bit of snow, though it was mostly fresh so crampons would have been useless.
I took my time and enjoyed the scenery, as the weather was absolutely glorious. This was one of the most enjoyable hillwalks I`ve ever done.
There were no major challenges on this walk, though right at the bottom of the hill I turned right just a bit too early, as I could see the path going further up the hill. I ended up walking through very boggy ground, but the good thing was, my boots and gaiters kept me perfectly dry.

Area : Inveraray to Crianlarich (Ben Lui)

From the Arrochar Alps to Ben Lui, this area is home to nine Munros. Half of the peaks in the area are within the boundaries of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, while the others lie to the west. The three summits of The Cobbler (884m) contain some of the best climbing in the Southern Highlands while Ben Lui in winter looks positively Alpine. Access is relatively straightforward from the A83, A82 or A85.
