Myself, husband and a friend (for who it was a first experience of going higher than 4000m, and has type 2 diabetes) went to the khumbu area of the himalayas to trek the three passes.
We were self sufficient, carrying all our own kit which included tents, stoves and food items for a couple of nights wild camping.
Our route was from Lukla, Phakding, Namche, Khumjung, Thame, Sunder peak, Lungden, Renjo pass, Gokyo, The 4th lake towards cho oyo, Cho La pass, camping on the top of the pass after the glacier crossing, Lobuche, Kala Pattar for sunset and back through the glacial moraine in the dark, Chukkung, Chukkung Ri, Dingboche, Tengboche, Namche, Lukla.
We walked everyday, with 18 kilo packs.
The weather stayed calm, blue skies, warm in the day and very cold at night.
acclimatisation was good for all three of us, even our friend with diabetes once he regulated his insulin intake, which taught me a lot about diabetes at higher altitudes.
The passes were hard with such heavy packs, and rest days of trekking without them was bliss.
we finished our trek a day earlier than planned as we felt good so pushed through our itinerary.
