A bloody long day !! Starting off heading up Lingmell, which I have now renamed Mingmell ! An utter slog up that hill but worth it for the views and to gain the height. We then took a path up to Scafell Pike that wasn`t an actual path. It involved a bit of scrambling but it was way more interesting than heading up the tourist route. We didn`t stop for long there and bashed on towards Broad and Ill crag. We stopped at a shelter below Great End and dried off our tents and sleeping bags. When we had woken up that morning everything was frozen and my down sleeping bag was soaking. We had a long philosophical discussion on life and relationships before heading back off towards Esk Pike. At the top of Bowfell I found I was feeling pretty done in. It was my 5th day straight of walking and my legs were really feeling it so we decided to camp at three tarns instead of Red Tarn like we planned. The sunset was lovely and we sat and had some whiskey and dinner (I even remembered my spork this time)
Area :
Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)
The Southern Fells Include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, occupy a broad area to the south of Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. High and rocky towards the centre of the Lake District, the Southern Fells progressively take on a moorland character toward the south west. In the south east are the well known Furness Fells, their heavily quarried flanks rising above Coniston Water.
