Top up log book day 3.
Used Harvey's 1:40.
Walked with Kevin, Sarah, Ciaron, Tom, Andy (Assessor), and Steve.
Weather, started sunny, gradually clouded over as day progressed (light cloud). Light breeze. Temperature 4 C to 6 C.
Parked at Kickstone Pass car park.
Started out with two hours of steep ground management, being led by a gent undertaking ML coaching. Climbed from car park, up towards Red Screes at 777m. Headed down to Scandale Pass at 614m then up to High Beckstones. From here walked to Dove Cragg where we stopped for a short break. Back tracked slightly to pick up path south down ridge, passing over High Pike and Low Pike. Small scramble and party management required at High/Low Brock Craggs due to one member of group having reduced visibility. Headed due south to pick up van in main car park at Ambleside. Finished walk at 1700.
Flora, fauna, geology: star moss, club moss, mice, soft rushes (which also make good rockets), pyroclastic volcanic rock.
Area :
Far Eastern Fells
Reaching their highest point at High Street(828 metres) they occupy a broad area to the east of Ullswater and Kirkstone Pass. Much quieter than the central areas of Lakeland they offer in general easier but less exciting walking as the fells merge mainly into the surrounding moorlands. Exceptions however are the fine rock scenery to be seen surrounding the head of Haweswater
