Description

First Day walking in the UK since coming home from Kenya and it was a struggle. The cold weather and air made it really hard for me. I thought with all the running at high altitude I`d done while away it would have helped a lot but it hadn`t seemed to make any difference. It was bitterly cold and I struggled to get my layering system right. There was a lot of snow on the ground and a lot of ice so crampons where used. This was my first Winter QMD and first time using crampons for walking and not climbing. Took a bit of getting used to. A long day on the hill covering over 20km and even though it was hard work it was a good day. I also practiced using a walking axe with Iain while on the hill.

Area : Glen Lyon to Glen Dochart & Loch Tay (Ben Lawers)

This area covers the peaks to the north and east of Crianlarich. Glen Lyon forms the northern boundary while the road from Crianlarich to Aberfeldy is the southern boundary. The Ben Lawers group in the east of this area includes seven separate peaks, all Munros, which are part of an impressive 12km ridge line. The western side of this area is generally lower and not as steep but does still home some a number of Munros. All major peaks above 600m are included in the mountains list. The area to the north is Loch Rannoch to Glen Lyon.
