Description

Walked in to the Hutchinson hut from the Lin Of Dee. Snow on the grouns from the car park but not frozen. Any parts of the route however that would normally be boggy were just frozen enough to skip across. Beautiful blue sky for the walk up, with strong gusts occasionally blowing spindrift around. It took 4 hours to reach the hut, with the last couple of km being pretty hard going with very deep drifts and very strong headwind heading up the coire to the bothy. Reached the bothy just before it got dark having set of at 12;30.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
