Description

First proper winter climb, first time carrying this much winter gear. One hell of a walk in, and a queue at the bottom of the route. Got hot aches from arms plunging in very deep powder at the bottom. . Another first, would rather not repeat that! The route was completely plastered in snow and ice, with broad gully next to us making some very unnerving crackling sounds. The crux move challenged me but I think it`s an interesting move for everyone. Climbed with Johnny, my friend and mentor. Windy on top, but no trouble on the route. Beautiful walk off.

Area : Glen Coe, Ardgour and Loch Etive to Appin (winter)

Glen Coe gives a wealth of winter climbing opportunities of all grades and styles, something indeed for everyone. The cliffs are also, in the main, easily accessible which means they can become very popular. This area also includes the winter climbs on the mountains south of Glen Coe in Glen Etive, and on hills more southerly still but north of the A85 Oban road (notably Ben Cruachan). Also included are the hills of Appin and Ballachuilish, the dry tooling of Ballachuilish bridge, and the winter climbs in Ardgour (notably Garbh Bheinn).
