Description

My husband and I took four friends up Snowdon, we were due to do crib Goch however a huge dump of snow put paid to that idea with some novices, so we went up Snowdon via the rhyd ddu path. Setting off in t shirts, warm and beautiful weather. Once reaching the llechog the temperatures dropped and there was plenty of snow underfoot. Upon meeting the bwlch main we needed to fit crampons to everyone, and start teaching them how to walk and also hold an axe.
We were, by far, the best kitted up people on that mountain that day, with a lot of unprepared people in bad clothing and footwear encountering problems near the summit. Wind chill minus 18 at the top. Huge temperature differences from the valley. Very frozen and compacted snow and ice from 800m, winter kit was essential.
We returned the way we came except a detour through the West Snowdon quarry for a scenery change on the way down.
