2 day expedition to summit Ben Alder, arrived Currour train station at 0830, topped out on Ben Alder at 1600 and then got to Benalder cottage for 2000, overnight in the Bothy and then back to the train station on the second day - getting the 2120 train back to Fort William.
Due to the weather window was forced to summit on the first day, knee to waist powder on the walk in slowed the team and winds built once onto Ben Alder itself. Ont he second day winds of 50 - 60mph were forecast, the weather didn`t feel that bad but white out conditions were encountered for 3 hours on the way out.
48km in total covered in 36 hours - excellent expedition, but a strong team is required.
Area :
Loch Treig to Loch Ericht (Ben Alder)
Often referred to as the Central Highlands, this area covers the mountains between Loch Treig, Loch Ericht and Loch Laggan. Access is commonly from the A86 or the Corrour Halt stop on the West Highland Railway. An impressive fourteen Munros are scattered across this area (four of which are over 1100m), and included in the mountains list are all of the peaks above 600m. Ben Alder is often thought of as one of the more remote mountains in Scotland and its vast high plateau sits in contrast to the ridge created by Beinn Bheoil. Peaks to the east of Loch Ericht are listed in the East Highlands region.
