Coaching and personal bouldering with Sophie and Leigh.
Sophie had identified a white route on our previous visit that she was unable to complete.
Today she wanted to complete it.
I took her through a good warm up, and we started with the route at the very beginning, looking at the best possible start position. The difficult part was the last move to get to the last hold - Sophie was unwilling to make a small jump to reach it, spending a long time holding on and tiring herself out.
When the first few attempts to complete failed, I asked Sophie to try and get both hands onto the penultimate hold. this seemed to work really well, and Sophie had the confidence to grab for the last hold.
Once she completed this I suggested she reinforce her confidence by completing it a couple more times (as it wasn`t a particularly hard route, just needed some thought put into it due to Sophie`s height) which she did and enjoyed it.
Moving on from this we finished the session with getting her to do the first few moves of a purple route which was much harder, just to try using crimps which she achieved well.
Many more orange routes were completed by Sophie so this was a very successful night!
