Description

14.7km + 910m. Glen Affric, Highlands.
Work site west of Chrisholme Bridge (09.15), down to the bridge and follow track up to the mini-hydro dam at GR914259, continued along side the Allt Gleann nam Fiadh to the tributary of Allt Toll Easa and the path up towards Toll Ease. Crossed the stream on a snow bridge (12.45) to go direct up the southern flank of the West Top Toll Creagach (14.30). Nicky did really well working her way up the snow slope. Continued along to the main summit (15.00). The descent was verbally south back to the mini-hydro. and back down the track to the bridge (17.30).
Nicky`s first Scottish winter day and the first big hill day for Barra. The snow was hard going below 650m being soft but once above that it had a frozen crust. Both Sapphire and Barra had boots on to protect their paws. The snow was soft again lower down making it particularly hard going fo the dogs.

Area : Glen Affric and Kintail

South of Loch Mullardoch you will find the Glen Affric and Kintail area whose southern boundary is the A87 road to Inverness. The Five Sisters of Kintail, Beinn Fhada, Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan and Carn Eighe are just some of the impressive peaks in this area, and all have their own unique selling points such as remoteness, size, steepness or height. As a result, peaks in the list are all over 900m.
