Bike 4km + 150m, 5.6km + 630m, bike 4km + 80m. Loch Quoich, North West Highlands.
Parked up on the Kinloch Hourn just beyond the bridge over the loch GR 014040 (11.20). Cycled up the west side of Glen Quoich to beyond one of the micro-hydro stations GR 010072. Zig-zagged up the stalkers path until it disappeared into the snow at 670m and then stopped for lunch. Headed on up the ridge to Am Bàithaich (14.00 ish) a deleted top with a lovely ridge. Had to drop west off the ridge due to the terrain (in the mist) and then cut south and west to Bealach Coire a Chaorainn (15.00) which would then take us back to the bikes (16.30) and back along the track to the van (17.00).
Though this was not a long day, it was a great day for Nicky to experience how disorientating snow and cloud can be. We also discovered that Sapphire is a tender foot compared to Barra, her paws seem to have blistered running back along the track, a great shame as she seemed to love it.
Area :
Glen Affric and Kintail
South of Loch Mullardoch you will find the Glen Affric and Kintail area whose southern boundary is the A87 road to Inverness. The Five Sisters of Kintail, Beinn Fhada, Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan and Carn Eighe are just some of the impressive peaks in this area, and all have their own unique selling points such as remoteness, size, steepness or height. As a result, peaks in the list are all over 900m.
