Description

MIND HIKE 2018 - Location was the EDEN PROJECT where we stayed in their Youth Hostel - which is quite a strange set-up - the huts are converted containers...
Target to walk for 24 hours and complete 40 miles.
The team actually walked 43.5 miles in just under 24 hours.
The Route took us around the area of Polkerris, Fowey, Gribbin Head, St Austell and around The Eden Project. The Coast-Line and hidden coves were beautiful, a hidden gem.
The conditions were extremely hot - I drank in the region of 7 ltrs during the day session and then a further 4 ltrs on the night session - the most I have ever drank on any hike or expedition.
During the event I needed to support people around me who were struggling as they did with me - it was a true team supporting event - very friendly.
One member of my team from JLR was really struggling I supported her through that period - just giving her the morale support that she needed, guided her with the use of walking poles on steep descents, how to ascend a steep climb - in small sections, looking 2 foot in front of you so it appears flat, taking in plenty of rests - we did manage to summit the highest point on the event and then continue on to complete the course. One of the Mountain Leaders - came and spoke to me after the event and said that he was impressed with the way I had helped my team member and that sort of help cannot be taught, you either have it or you don't. This was such a great complement - enough for me to finally decide that I would like to give Mountain Leading a go and sign up for the course at Plas-Y-Brenin in Aug 2018 - this could be an exit plan for a future career ---- I really hope in the future I read this message with glee and smiles. Good Luck..! Great Times, Great Memories.
