Description

2nd acclimatization mountaineering hike to Summit Izataccihuati (to the locals they call the mountain Easter!).
Izataccihuati stands at 5230m.
This was an alpine start at 2am.
Crampons & Touring Axe was required on one section of the accent (no need for roping between team members), where we had to ascend a snow section.
From Izataccihuati you have a clear view of Popocatépetl (5426m) otherwise known as the smoking mountain (an active Stratovolcano)
A successful summit was achieved after midday.
Total time on the hike approx 16 hours.
I found the altitude very hard at times and my pace was considerably slow - although a slow pace is needed at high altitude with a lack oxygen.
